FOUR SAFE AFTER BOAT CAPSIZES ON OREGON COAST

SEATTLE – Four people are safe after their 20-foot pleasure boat capsized south of the entrance to Nestucca Bay, Ore., Monday morning.

Coast Guard Station Tillamook Bay, Ore., received a call from the local 911 dispatcher at 9:37 a.m., that a small pleasure craft had capsized in the surf.

Three people were reported on shore and one person was still missing in the surf.

A 47-foot motor lifeboat from Station Tillamook Bay, and a beach rescue truck from Station Depoe Bay, Ore., were launched.  An HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Group/Air Station was prepared to launch.

Nestucca Fire Rescue arrived at the beach and confirmed that all four people were out of the water and safe.  The capsized boat was recovered by Nestucca Fire Rescue.

Weather conditions at the time of the capsizing were seas of 2-4 feet and a water temperature of 55 degrees.

Boaters should check local weather and bar conditions with their local Coast Guard Station prior to heading through a bar area.  Boaters should always carry and monitor VHF channel 16 on their marine radio for information broadcasts.
